High potential and gifted education (HPGE)
At Panania North Public School, we are committed to the NSW Department of Education's High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) Policy, which ensures that students with high potential across all areas of ability are identified, supported and challenged to thrive. The policy recognises that students may demonstrate high potential — and the capacity for gifted performance — in one or more of four domains: intellectual, creative, social-emotional and physical.
Our HPGE approach includes a continuous cycle of assessment, identification, planning, implementation and evaluation, ensuring that all students with potential and giftedness are recognised and extended across all four domains. We understand that potential exists along a continuum, where differing degrees of potential require differing approaches and levels of adjustment and intervention.
Through enrichment, extension, and extra-curricular opportunities, we provide engaging pathways to develop talent, build confidence and nurture capabilities that prepare our students for high school and life beyond. Our commitment includes supporting the talent development of all high potential and gifted students, recognising that these students come from all backgrounds and may have diverse needs.

Why choose us for your high potential or gifted child?
Recognising Potential and Developing Talent
Our experienced teachers are trained in identifying high potential across the four key domains – intellectual, creative, physical, and social-emotional. We use evidence-based assessment practices and ongoing observation to recognise your child's unique strengths and areas of potential. Rather than relying solely on test scores, we look for signs of advanced learning ability, creative thinking, leadership qualities, and exceptional physical coordination. Our talent development approach is systematic and purposeful, designed to transform your child's potential into high achievement through targeted support and challenge.
Tailored Learning Experiences
We believe that one size does not fit all. Our teachers are skilled in differentiation, creating learning experiences that respond to each student's advanced abilities and learning pace. This includes:
- Curriculum compacting - eliminating content already mastered to make time for enrichment
- Flexible grouping - allowing students to work with intellectual peers across year levels
- Individual learning pathways - customised programs that accelerate learning in areas of strength
- Choice and autonomy - empowering students to pursue their interests and direct their learning
- Ongoing assessment - continuous monitoring to ensure appropriate challenge and growth
Rich Opportunities and Diverse Pathways
Our students access talent development opportunities across all four domains:
- Academic Excellence - Advanced problem-solving programs, independent research projects, academic competitions, and mentorship opportunities with high school and university partners.
- Creative Expression - Visual arts exhibitions, music ensembles, creative writing workshops, and innovative design challenges that showcase student talent.
- Leadership Development - Student parliament roles, peer mentoring programs, community service projects, and public speaking competitions that build confidence and character.
- Physical Achievement - Elite sports coaching, representative team opportunities, outdoor education experiences, and specialised fitness programs
Opening Doors to Exceptional Experiences
We connect our students with broader learning networks through partnerships with high schools, universities, and cultural organisations. Our students participate in state and national competitions, creative arts showcases, and sporting representatives. We provide Opportunity Class preparation, selective school readiness programs, and acceleration options when appropriate.
Supportive Learning Environment
We create a safe, inclusive environment where high potential and gifted students connect with like-minded peers, develop social-emotional skills alongside academic growth, and build resilience while celebrating their achievements.
Family and Community Partnership
We work closely with families through regular communication, home support guidance, specialist resources, and connections with other families of high potential children.
Expert Staff and Proven Results
Our teachers are trained in gifted education best practices with ongoing professional development. Our students consistently achieve outstanding outcomes including high academic growth, successful transitions to selective schools and opportunity classes, and recognition in state and national competitions.
