Dear Parents/Caregivers,

Panania North Public School are always looking for new and innovative ways to increase communication with our parents and wider community.  Facebook is a great tool for engaging with the school community and we are excited to introduce the Panania North PS Facebook page. This social media platform will be used to publicise, promote and highlight positive school achievements in forum where they can be shared by the school, teachers and the community.

Our page will be used to display the learning experiences both in and out of the classroom. It will have links to the school website and any linked accounts. It is important to note that school related reminders will still be published on Skoolbag. In joining our community on Facebook, Panania North Public school follows both the department of education code of conduct and Facebook terms and conditions. Most of all, our Facebook page is a place where we build our community by building school spirit.

Please find a copy of the school Facebook policy on the next page, which discusses rules of engagement, comment policies and friending staff on Facebook.

Friending Staff on Facebook

Please note that the Department of Education and Communities has this advice for teachers 'Friending' parents on Facebook:

The line between your professional and personal life could become blurred making it difficult to manage your professional relationship with the parents when that becomes necessary.

You also need to bear in mind that becoming a Facebook friend with a parent could result in their children getting access to your account as well.

You also need to be mindful that you need to be careful what you say on Facebook if you have parents as friends as comments made online can be misunderstood and could result in parental complaints made to your principal.

Please do not ask to friend a member of staff on Facebook as refusal often offends

The social media implementation procedures document states that parents and caregivers are to please visit www.esafety.com.au to help understand online privacy and to enable you to make decisions to help protect your child/children as you see fit.

For further information regarding the use of our official Facebook Page or any other of our social media channels please contact the school directly (02) 9773 8394.
